These days, the tough economic situation has affected the choice of people and make them to often prefer used equipment. The boom trucks are not an exception and they are also more often bought in used condition. In fact, a boom truck is a big van with a long metal arm folded back over the roofs. A new boom truck surely brings many advantages, but the used boom truck is much more preferable choice.

The boom truck differs in few aspects from the knuckle boom crane. A knuckle boom crane, attached to a knuckle boom truck, is an articulate crane that can be folded few times and conveniently & safely stored on the truck bed. Today, there is a wide selection of used knuckle boom cranes for sale by mane popular manufacturers, such as Bronto, GSR, Nifty, etc. Depending on the application, you can choose a boom crane with different lifting capacity up to 60 meters and a self-drive access platforms with working heights up to 22 metres. Usually, the knuckle boom crane is mounted on a knuckle boom truck.

The boom trucks have a boom crane mounted at the rear and can lift extremely heavy loads. The boom cranes for sale are available in several different configurations, as they can be compact or huge, short or long, and some can even extend the entire length of the truck bed. The boom crane trucks have a lifting capacity of from 10 tons up to 50 tons, depending on the size of the boom crane. In the market, there are truck-mounted boom cranes for sale of many different sizes, from the smallest ones to very large cranes. Also, there are new and used boom cranes for sale and your choice should be based on how much are you willing to spend. If you are willing to afford yourself a new boom crane, then you should get a new one, but if you do not, a used boom crane is also a good option.

When looking for a used boom crane, the boom requires most attention. You need to find out if it has been repaired or replaced, and the best way to do it is to take a look at the crane sections. If one or two boom crane sections are damaged, it is very likely the boom has been repaired. Also, it is very important to find a trusted source with a big reputation. When you ask about the condition of the boom crane, you need to believe the seller. Many sellers try to sell a used boom crane with some hidden damages of the boom, so you need to make a thoroughly inspection.

The condition of the boom crane is not the most important thing, but matching a boom crane with the right application. If you have chosen a boom crane with capacities that fit your applications, the condition does not play a big role. But before you buy one, you need to thoroughly inspect it and check for damages. If the inspection goes well, you are free to buy that boom crane and start lifting your dreams.

All About Crawler Cranes

Tuesday, April 15, 2014

A crawler crane is a special type of truck-crane and it is mounted on caterpillar treads that are used on tracked military vehicles and tanks. The crawler cranes are most efficient on soft surfaces, because of the tracks. They are incredibly stable cranes and can lift heavier weights than the common wheeled cranes. In fact, crawler cranes are the most stable lifting equipment. So, the crawler cranes are most efficient in yards, forests, fields and similar places where the movement is over soft surfaces.

Crawler cranes consist a two parallel crawler belts with a series of tread links, an engine mounted on the top of the caterpillar, a boom, a cabin, a control area and the most basis of the crane – track propulsion system. The track propulsion was included in the old design of crawler crane for sale, but as it has proven to be very effective, it is still in use. The boom of crawler cranes is located above the cabin and can have a small extension at its end. That small extension is called a jib, and it allows each crawler crane for sale to lift & move objects away from the center.

As crawler cranes have steel tracks, they have an increased ground contact and operate with increased stability. They are also very maneuverable and versatile machines and can be efficient for many different applications. Because the crawler can maneuver in any direction, it is very flexible, increasing the already high efficiency. The capacity of crawler cranes can range from 10 to over 3000 tons and they all can maneuver the loads for fully 360 degrees. The length of the boom also varies and depends on the type of application. Most crawler cranes have a speed of about 10 km/h and can hoist a 4 ton load at about a 3m reach.

The main advantage of each crawler crane for sale is that they can perform each lift with easy & quick set-up and easily move around the job sites. Also, they can travel fully loaded, but unfortunately, as they are very huge, they are transported by additional vehicle from one job site to another for a significant cost.

Mobile Or Fixed Crane

Wednesday, April 9, 2014

Whether fixed or mobile, the cranes are an integral part of any construction application. Both types of cranes are similar and work on same principle, but in fact, they are very different. The cranes are most commonly in the construction industry and industries that involve lifting and moving heavier parts and equipment. Generally, each crane consists a carrier frame, outriggers, a boom, an operator's cabin, a gear box, an engine and breaks.

Cranes are very efficient machines, mostly because of their ability to lift, move and lower loads around the axis of rotation. Depending on the application, there are many different types of cranes, but they are all grouped in two main categories: mobile and fixed crane. Read on and find something about both categories.

Mobile Crane – The mobile crane is far more versatile and flexible than the fixed crane. Quick and easy to set up & dismantle, the mobile crane is very practical and suitable for virtually any lifting operation. There are numerous mobile crane types, including side-lift, rough terrain, all terrain, aerial, truck-mounted, crawler and pick & carry cranes. In general, the mobile crane consists chains, a wire rope drum and a control panel. The advanced technology today improved the mobile crane significantly and today it offers many advantages over the fixed crane, including:
  • Easy access on any job site;
  • Operative in very tight areas;
  • Easy and quick to set up and dismantle;
  • Strong and able to lift as much as the largest cranes can;
Fixed Crane – Unlike the mobile crane, the fixed crane is a permanent addition in most larger construction job sites. As its name suggests, the fixed crane is fixed into the ground in order to secure a strong bold and provide an incredible stability. Also, it offers an exceptional combination of lifting and height capacity, in exchange of its mobility. The fixed crane is able to lift very heavy loads and reach great heights, due to its stability. The most common fixed crane is tower crane, but there are many other fixed crane types, including self-erecting, loader and hammerhead cranes. The most obvious advantages of the fixed crane over the mobile crane are:

  • Better stability, as it is fixed into the ground;
  • Able to reach greater heights;
  • Able to lift extremely heavy weights.
